1. Gould defines facts as the "world data" and refers to observing an apple fall from the tree as Isaac Newton is alleged to have done. Identify some of the facts Gould present as evidence to suport the theory of evolution.
* "perfection covers the tracks of past history, and past history the evidence of descent- is our mark of evolution, evolution. lies exposed in the imperfections that record a hitory of descent.
* "fossils that are not common, and shouldn't be. but not because of our understanding of evolution.
* Paragraph 17.* "the etymology of september, october, november, december ( seven, eight, ninth, and tenth, we know that two additional ones must be added to an original calendar of ten months."
2. Gould defines theories as "structures of ideas that exsplain and interrupt facts," such as Newton's theory of gravitation, which was introduced to exsplain the facts like falling apples. In addition to facts, Gould states, the theory of evolution is supported by reasonable inferences that he sites as evidence.
paragraph 16 (months) & Paragraph 17 (humans)
3.Gould begins this essay with allutions to the scopes trial of 1925, Darrow, and Bryan. He seems to assume that his readers will know what he is talking about. If you know about this event, how does this refrence set the scene for his 1981 essay? If you dont know about it, was your understanding reduced.
I think that he's exsplaining or showing something that is really important for him and for the person that he was in this part of history.
