DO YOU WANT A WIFE?

Journal Entry #5

This essay was written in 1971. What types of duties does Syfers describe as being performed by wives? In this essay Syfers believe that a wife should do everything for him as well as his children, while he does what he has to do.
To what degree do you believe these are still done primarily by women? I believe that in some household women still believe in and play these roles.
Have these or other things about the husband/wife relationship changed in the last 37 years? Yes I feel that the husband wife relationship have changed significantly in terms that the husband and wife are more equal now.
How would you describe Syfers’ writing style? Does she do things you would typically avoid in your own writing? Yes she does do certain things that I would try to avoid, but I think she did it and got to the point that she wanted to get across.
Syfers was reacting to a social structure that she felt at the time was unfair. What types of injustice or unfairness do you see in the world nowadays that you think should be addressed? I feel that certain jobs go to men that a woman can do better but because of there sex they feel that they can’t do the job as well as a man.
Syfers implies that men benefit from the servile position of women in the family. Who benefits from the injustices you see active in the world today? I think the rich benefits from the injustices I see active in the world today.
